About Us ...
Grand Traverse Trucking opened in 1996 by Terry Gilland. He supplied Sara Lee Bakery in Traverse City, Michigan with a shuttle program to warehouses and customers in the State of Michigan. He also supplied them witih yard storage trailers and a fueling program.
Prior to starting Grand Traverse Trucking, Terry worked for Nottke Trucking as a driver, owner operator and dispatcher. He has been a long time friend of the Nottke family.
In the fall of 1996 at the request of Sara Lee, Terry applied for and received Interstate Authority to help out with long hauls.
In 1999, Terry sold stock to Rick Nottke, who is now the CEO of the company. Rick has had a long time relationship with Chef Pierre, now known as Sara Lee Bakery in Traverse City, Michigan.
Rick ran his family business, dating back to the mid-1960's. The Nottke family started the Dedicated Fleet for Chef Pierre. After closing Dedicated Fleet, Rick started Nottke Trucking, supplying Sara Lee Bakery with trucks to transport customer loads and supplies to the plant. He sold Nottke Trucking in 1994, taking a break from the trucking industry. As CEO of Grand Traverse Trucking, Rick has taken the company from seven trucks in 1999, doing $1 million dollars to a fleet of 62 trucks doing over $12 million in 2007.
In 2003, Rick purchased Traverse Cold Storage, furnishing storage for finished pies and raw materials for the Sara Lee Bakery Traverse City Plant. Traverse Cold Storage is dedicated to keeping trucks moving with in-bound and out-bound shipments.
Together, Rick and Terry, along with their employees have many years in the transportation industry. In 2006, Grand Traverse Trucking was nominated for the Small Business of the Year Award presented by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.
